Best Books for Stay-at-Home Moms: Encouragement, Inspiration, and Practical Advice
Being a stay-at-home mom is one of the most rewarding, exhausting, and humorous roles in life. It's also probably the hardest I have ever worked over any full-time job I have ever had 😅 Whether you’re in the early days with new moms adjusting to sleepless nights, toddlers, and endless diaper changes, or navigating the little years and homeschooling, your days are full of meaning but often feel like a never-ending to-do list.
Sometimes, the best way to reset, recharge, and find a little perspective is through books. Reading has always been one of my go-to's for when I need to decompress, change perspective, and feel encouraged. Whether you’re looking for a good book to read during nap time, a great book to gift a friend, or a new book that will inspire your full-time parenting journey, there’s something for every at-home parent in this list.
Here are some of the best books for stay-at-home moms, curated from my bookshelf, my TBR list on my kindle, and some favorites among busy moms.

Vanderkam’s book is essentially a time management guide for women, showing how working moms and stay-at-home moms alike find pockets of productivity without sacrificing their sanity.
Vanderkam’s advice is practical, but also inspiring: by being intentional with your schedule, you can find time for yourself without guilt. Bonus Tips for Finding Reading Time
Even the best books aren’t useful if you never have time to read them (and all the busy mamas said amennn). For stay-at-home moms, finding time to read can feel impossible. Here are some of the strategies I use in my own life to find a little more "me time":
Morning rituals: Wake up 15 minutes earlier to enjoy a short book or an easy read with coffee. Usually, this is my time to read the Bible or a devotional to get my mind focused before the day. It is honestly one of my favorite rhythms of my day.
Nap-time reading: You better believe that I am pulling out a book while my little ones read. I used to try and cram every chore I could into that time, but lately, I am trying to intentionally carve out that time for me to rest, too.
E-readers: Since owning a Kindle, I have read more than ever before in my life! Especially with having little kids around (who like grabbing/ tearing pages with messy little fingers), I find that it is so much easier and convenient. Plus, it is so nice having multiple books available without having to carry them all around!
Audiobooks: We recently started taking my daughter to a hybrid pre-k program 2 days a week. One thing that I did not realize was how much driving that would add to my week. Her school is only ~20 minutes away from our home, but that is nearly an hour and a half when you include both directions for drop-off and pick-up. Now, I use these few extra hours of drive time to listen to an audiobook!
Final Thoughts
Being a stay-at-home mom is a full-time job filled with joy, challenges, and tiny victories. The right books can act as guides, companions, and sometimes even lifelines when things get tough. From new moms to seasoned parents navigating homeschooling or teen girls, these titles provide laughter, encouragement, practical advice, and a sense of connection.
Remember, taking time for yourself isn’t indulgent—it’s the first step toward being a better mom for your own children. Whether it’s a short book you can squeeze into nap time, a new book that inspires reflection, or a kind of book that simply makes you laugh, reading is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself in these little years.
